Router or hub light orange, red or flashing? What it means, by provider
194 light states on 24 broadband hubs from 9 providers, each from the provider’s own support page. Solid orange means “starting up” on one hub and “no internet” on another, so pick the colour, whether it is steady or flashing, and your provider.

What these pages cannot do
- They cannot see your line. A light only says what the hub thinks; the provider’s own line or service checker is the test for a fault or an outage.
- They cannot tell hubs apart by colour. Match the name on the hub’s label first: the same provider’s hubs use different colours.
- They carry only what each provider’s page states. A colour or pattern the page does not mention is not here, and where a provider gives no fix for a light, the page says so.
Left out, and why
A provider gets a page when its own site documents at least 2 hub models or 6 light states and we could read them. These did not, or only in part:
- Vodafone UK — Its ‘Router lights explained’ page answered HTTP 200, but the page it served held no light meanings: they are drawn in by a script after load, and the served HTML names no colour at all. We don’t transcribe what we can’t read from the provider’s own page. www.vodafone.co.uk Checked 2026-09-29.
- Spectrum — Its support pages are served as an empty app shell (HTTP 200, no article text), and the text of its WiFi 6 router user guide PDF could not be read reliably. No page yet. www.spectrum.net Checked 2026-09-29.
- Virgin Media Hub 5 and Hub 4 — Virgin Media’s colour pages list the Hub 5 and Hub 4 colours (solid, flashing and dimmed white; solid and flashing red, green and blue) as pictures, but the meaning of each is not in the page it served. Only the Hub 3 and Super Hub 2 descriptions were readable, so only those are on the Virgin Media page. www.virginmedia.com Checked 2026-09-29.
- Plusnet router-lights help page — www.plus.net answered HTTP 401 with a robot check. The Plusnet page uses Plusnet’s own Hub Two video transcript on static.plus.net instead. www.plus.net Checked 2026-09-29.
- Sky Q Hub and Sky Hub — Sky’s guide covers them, but only the Max, Gigafast+ and Broadband hubs were transcribed this time. The Broadband Hub page shares Sky’s ‘power light flashing amber’, ‘lights off’ and ‘there might be a problem’ articles with them. www.sky.com Checked 2026-09-29.
- Verizon 5G Home Router — Its ring light is described as animations (for example ‘Animation Red/Amber’) that don’t map onto a steady-or-flashing picker without guessing, so it isn’t in the picker. www.verizon.com Checked 2026-09-29.
