Sky Q Hub lights: what each colour means

6 light states of the Sky Q Hub, from Sky’s own page Lights on your Sky hub explained: What colour is the power light? (Sky Q Hub). It has a power light and an internet light on the front. Sky’s guide asks for the power light first, then the internet light. On the Sky Q Hub, ‘normal’ is green, not white as on the newer Sky hubs.

  1. Internet

    Power and internet lights green

You’re all set up: the hub is working and connected to the internet.

Sky’s page gives no step for this light.

  2. Power

Power light green, internet light off

Sky treats this as a possible problem with the connection, not the hub: its guide says “It looks like there might be a problem”.

    What Sky says to do

    1. Sign in to Sky’s Service Checker, which runs tests on your connection and setup and shows you how to fix a fault if it finds one.
    2. Not the account holder? Sky links its step-by-step broadband troubleshooter instead.

  3. Internet

    Internet light amber

It looks like there might be a problem with the connection; Sky gives the same answer as for an internet light that is off.

    What Sky says to do

    1. Sign in to Sky’s Service Checker, which runs tests on your connection and setup and shows you how to fix a fault if it finds one.

  4. Power

    Power light red

It looks like there might be a fault with the hub itself.

    What Sky says to do

    1. Sign in to Sky’s Service Checker, which runs tests on your connection and setup and shows you how to fix a fault if it finds one.

  5. Power

    Power light flashing amber

The hub is in recovery mode; this can happen after a software update.

    What Sky says to do

    1. If it has been flashing for more than 15 minutes, hold Reset on the back of the hub for 10 to 30 seconds, until the lights on the front blink.
    2. Wait a few minutes for the lights to return to normal, then check your broadband works. The reset puts the Wi-Fi password back to the one printed on the hub.

  6. Power

    No lights

The hub has no power, or is not getting it.

    What Sky says to do

    1. Switch the hub off at the mains. While it’s off, check the power cable for damage and try the plug socket with another device.
    2. Switch the hub back on and wait a few minutes for it to restart and the lights to come back.
    3. Still off? Sky asks you to run its connection tests (Service Checker, signed in to your Sky account).

Other Sky hubs

The same colour can mean something else on another Sky hub, so check the name on your hub’s label.
