Sky Broadband Hub lights: what each colour means

7 light states of the Sky Broadband Hub, from Sky’s own page Lights on your Sky hub explained (choose your hub). It has power, internet and voice lights.

  1. Voice

    Power, internet and voice lights green

    You’re all set up: the hub is connected to the internet and the home phone service is ready to make calls.

    Sky’s page gives no step for this light.

  2. Power

    Power light flashing green

    Your hub is running a software update.

    What Sky says to do

    1. It usually takes about 15 minutes; the light stops flashing when it’s done. Don’t turn the hub off meanwhile.

  3. Power

    Power light flashing amber

    Your hub is in recovery mode; this can happen after a software update.

    What Sky says to do

    1. Flashing for more than 15 minutes? Hold Reset on the back for 10 to 30 seconds until the front lights blink, wait a few minutes, then check your broadband. This puts the Wi-Fi password back to the one on the hub’s label.

  4. Power

    Power light red

    There might be a fault with your hub.

    1. Sign in to Sky’s Service Checker to run tests on the connection and setup.

  5. Internet

    Internet light flashing amber

    Your hub is trying to connect; this usually happens while it starts up, for example after a restart.

    1. Flashing amber for more than 5 minutes? Sign in to Sky’s Service Checker to run tests.

    Internet light amber or off

    It looks like there might be a problem.

    1. Sign in to Sky’s Service Checker to run tests; if it finds a fault it shows you how to fix it.

  7. Power

    Power light off

    Your hub lights are off.

    What Sky says to do

    1. Switch the hub off at the mains, check the power cable and the plug socket, switch it back on and wait a few minutes.
