Sky Max Hub lights: what each colour means

9 light states of the Sky Max Hub, from Sky’s own page Lights on your Sky hub explained (choose your hub). It has one light under the Sky name on the front.

  1. White

    You’re all set up: the hub is working and connected to the internet.

    Sky’s page gives no step for this light.

  2. Amber

    Your hub is powering up.

    What Sky says to do

    1. It can take a few minutes to start up; the light turns white when it’s connected.

  3. Flashing amber

    Your hub is authenticating.

    1. It can take a few minutes to connect to the internet; the light stops flashing and turns white when it’s connected.

  4. Slowly flashing green

    Your hub has been authenticated and will be ready in a moment; the light turns white when it’s connected.

    What Sky says to do

    1. Still flashing after 5 minutes? There may be an authentication issue: switch the hub off at the plug socket and back on.
    2. If that doesn’t fix it, sign in to Sky’s Service Checker to run tests on the connection.

  5. Quickly flashing green

    Your hub is resetting (the Reset button was held for five seconds). Holding it for more than 12 seconds factory-resets the hub.

    What Sky says to do

    1. Don’t disconnect the power while it is doing this.

  6. Flashing green and amber

    Your hub is running a software update.

    What Sky says to do

    1. It usually takes about 15 minutes; the light turns white when it’s done.
    2. Don’t turn the hub off while it is updating.

  7. Flashing blue

    WPS mode is on: the hub is ready to connect to a device.

    What Sky says to do

    1. Press the WPS button on the device; the hub flashes blue for 2 minutes while it tries.
    2. Not connected? Hold the hub’s WPS button for 3 seconds and let go to try again. Holding it for 30 seconds or more factory-resets the hub.

  8. Red

    It looks like there might be a problem.

    1. Sign in to Sky’s Service Checker to run tests; if it finds a fault it shows you how to fix it.

  9. Off / no light

    Your hub lights are off.

    What Sky says to do

    1. Switch the hub off at the mains; check the power cable for damage and test the plug socket with another device.
    2. Switch it back on and wait a few minutes for the light to return to white; if it stays off, run Sky’s connection tests.
