EE Smart Hub lights: what each colour means

9 light states of the EE Smart Hub, from EE’s own page What the lights on your Smart Hub mean. It has one status light, plus a WPS light.

EE: the name is printed on a sticker on the back of the hub.

  1. Blue light

    Your hub is connected to broadband.

    What EE says to do

    1. If a device can’t get online, move it closer to the hub, switch it off and on, or turn the hub off for two minutes and back on, then check the light after five minutes.

  2. Green light

    Your hub is starting up.

    What EE says to do

    1. Wait at least three minutes for it to turn solid blue.
    2. If it stays green, turn it off with the Power button on the back, wait two minutes, turn it on and wait three minutes.
    3. Still green: press the hub’s Reset button with a pin or straightened paperclip.

  3. Flashing orange light

    Your hub is connecting to broadband.

    What EE says to do

    1. Give it at least three minutes; the light turns blue when the hub is ready.
    2. If it keeps flashing, check the cables: part fibre or copper, broadband cable from the hub’s Broadband socket to the filter and phone socket; Full Fibre, black cable with red ends from the WAN or 4 socket to the Openreach modem’s Port 1 or LAN1.

  4. Orange light

    Your hub isn’t connected to the internet.

    What EE says to do

    1. Turn the hub off with its Power button, wait two minutes and turn it back on.
    2. If you are new to EE or have just moved, check your broadband activation date has passed.
    3. Check for service issues on EE’s broadband checker.

  5. Flashing purple light

    Your hub is working but isn’t set up for Full Fibre broadband.

    What EE says to do

    1. Check the white cable with red ends is firmly in the hub socket marked WAN or 4, and its other end in the Openreach modem’s Port 1 or LAN1.
    2. If the modem has more than one port, try the next one along and check the light again.

  6. Purple light

    Your Connectivity Backup device is in use and the hub is using the mobile network (resilience mode).

    EE’s page gives no step for this light.

  7. Red light

    There’s a problem somewhere.

    What EE says to do

    1. Turn the hub off with the Power button, wait two minutes, turn it back on, and check the light again after three minutes.

  8. No light

    Either the power is off, or the light has been turned off.

    What EE says to do

    1. Check the power cable is in the back of the hub, the plug is in and switched on, and push the hub’s Power button.

  9. WPS

    WPS light flashing blue

    The WPS button was pressed: the hub is waiting for you to choose WPS on your computer or device.

    What EE says to do

    1. Press or select WPS on the device you are connecting.
