Read this first

Renault's handbook has two lamps other makes do not split this way: an urgent STOP lamp that means stop immediately, switch off and do not restart, and a separate triangle 'warning light' that is red for a serious fault and yellow for one that means drive carefully to a dealer. Many of its lamps only mean something when they come on with the triangle and a beep. The coolant lamp is blue when the engine is cold and turns red if it overheats. Dacia belongs to Renault and uses many of the same lamps; this page is confirmed by a Renault handbook only.

Renault STOP warning light

Renault calls it “Urgent stop warning light”.

Stop immediately, as soon as traffic allows. Switch off the engine, do not restart it, and call an approved dealer.

Master warning light (triangle with !)

Renault calls it “Warning light”.

Red: stop as soon as traffic allows and do not restart. Yellow: drive with care to an approved dealer as soon as possible.

Brake system warning light

Renault calls it “Brake circuit fault warning light”.

With the triangle and a beep while braking: brake fluid is low or the brakes have a fault. Stop as soon as traffic allows.

Battery / charging warning light

Renault calls it “Battery charge warning light”.

With the triangle and a beep: the electrical circuit is overloaded or discharging. Stop as soon as traffic allows.

Oil pressure warning light (oil can)

Renault calls it “Oil pressure warning light”.

With the triangle and a beep: stop immediately and switch off, then check the oil level.

Engine coolant temperature warning light

Renault calls it “Coolant temperature warning light”.

Blue at start-up while the engine is cold. Red: stop and let the engine idle a minute or two; if it does not turn blue again, switch off.

Power steering warning light (EPS)

Renault calls it “Variable power assisted steering warning light”.

If it comes on while driving with the triangle: a power steering fault — call an approved dealer.

Parking brake light

Renault calls it “Parking brake applied and Electronic parking brake applied warning light”.

The parking brake (manual or electronic) is applied.

Airbag warning light

Renault calls it “Tell-tale light for airbag”.

Goes off a few seconds after start-up. Not lighting at all, or lighting with the engine running: an airbag fault — contact a dealer.

ABS warning light (anti-lock brakes)

Renault calls it “Anti-lock braking warning light”.

While driving: an ABS fault. Braking stays normal, without ABS.

Stability control light (ESC)

Renault calls it “Warning light for the electronic stability control (ESC) and traction control system”.

Renault calls it “Particle filter system warning light”.

If it flashes, reduce the engine speed until it stops, then contact a dealer soon.

Renault calls it “Low fuel level warning light”.
