ECO mode light

The car's economy driving mode is switched on. It sets the car up to use less fuel or battery energy — Nissan says ECO mode helps extend the range of its LEAF by consuming less power. It is a mode you chose, not a fault.

What to do

Nothing is needed. To go back to the normal mode, switch ECO off with the drive-mode button or the drive-mode menu, as your manual describes.

Makes differ: what this light means on your car, the other colours it may use for the symbol and what the car wants you to do are set by the manufacturer, so your car's owner's manual is the authority.

How urgent is it?

Green: Fine to drive. Renault: it comes on when ECO mode is activated; no action is asked for.

Where makes differ

Renault's Captur shows the letters ECO in green when ECO mode is activated. Hyundai's 2025 Tucson lights its ECO mode indicator when ECO is selected as the drive mode. Volkswagen's ID. models show an Eco driving profile symbol that switches the car into an economical mode. Nissan's LEAF shows its ECO mode indicator on the vehicle information display. None of them describes it as a warning.

Not defined by regulation: a maker convention

Neither US FMVSS 101 (Tables 1 and 2) nor UN Regulation No. 121 lists this light, so no rule fixes its symbol or its colour. What follows is what the makers cited below say; other makes, and other model years of the same make, may draw it differently.
