Every light below is confirmed by one Toyota handbook: the 2019 RAV4 sold in Australia, downloaded from Toyota Australia's own owner's manual site. Lexus is built by Toyota and its handbooks use many of the same lamps and names (Slip indicator, VSC OFF, PCS, SRS), but no Lexus handbook was checked for this page — a Lexus owner should treat it as a guide, not proof. Toyota splits its lamps into 'warning lights' (a malfunction) and 'indicators' (the state of a system), and says a lamp that comes on or flashes and then goes off does not necessarily mean a fault. The brake system warning light comes in two colours with two meanings: red is low brake fluid or a brake system fault — stop immediately; yellow is a fault in the parking brake system. The power steering lamp is also two-coloured: yellow means steering assist is restricted, red means it is lost and the wheel becomes extremely heavy. This is an Australian handbook; a US or European RAV4 can differ in detail.

Brake system warning light

Toyota calls it “Brake system warning light”.

Red, with a buzzer: the brake fluid level is low or the brake system is malfunctioning — immediately stop in a safe place and contact a Toyota dealer; continuing to drive may be dangerous. (Yellow means a parking brake system fault.)

Battery / charging warning light

Toyota calls it “Charging system warning light”.

A malfunction in the vehicle's charging system — immediately stop in a safe place and contact a Toyota dealer.

Engine coolant temperature warning light

Toyota calls it “High coolant temperature warning light”.

With a buzzer: the engine is overheating — immediately stop in a safe place.

Oil pressure warning light (oil can)

Toyota calls it “Low engine oil pressure warning light”.

With a buzzer: the engine oil pressure is too low — immediately stop in a safe place and contact a Toyota dealer.

Check engine light (engine malfunction)

Toyota calls it “Malfunction indicator lamp”.

A malfunction in the electronic engine control, electronic throttle control, emission control or CVT control system — have the car inspected by a dealer immediately. It also comes on if the fuel tank runs completely empty.

Airbag warning light

Toyota calls it “SRS warning light”.

A malfunction in the SRS airbag system or the seat belt pretensioner system — have the car inspected by a dealer immediately.

ABS warning light (anti-lock brakes)

Toyota calls it “ABS warning light”.

A malfunction in the ABS or the brake assist system — have the car inspected by a dealer immediately.

Power steering warning light (EPS)

Toyota calls it “Electric power steering system warning light”.

With a buzzer: a fault in the EPS. Yellow: steering assist is restricted. Red: assist is lost and the wheel becomes extremely heavy — hold it firmly and use more force than usual.

Forward collision warning light

Toyota calls it “PCS warning light”.

Flashes or stays on. With a buzzer: a malfunction in the Pre-Collision System. Without: the PCS is temporarily unavailable. It also lights when the PCS or VSC is switched off.

Lane assist (lane keeping) light

Toyota calls it “LTA indicator / LDA indicator”.

Orange, with a buzzer: a malfunction in Lane Tracing Assist or Lane Departure Alert — follow the instructions on the multi-information display.

Flashes while VSC or TRC is working. Staying on: a malfunction in the VSC/Trailer Sway Control, TRC, hill-start assist or downhill assist control — have it inspected immediately.

On while the parking brake is not released. Flashing: it may not be fully engaged or released — operate the parking brake switch again.

Low fuel light

Toyota calls it “Low fuel level warning light”.

About 8.3 L (2.2 US gal, 1.8 Imp gal) of fuel or less remains — refuel.

Seat belt warning light

Toyota calls it “Driver's and front passenger's seat belt reminder light”.

Fasten the seat belt. The buzzer sounds for 30 seconds once the car reaches 20 km/h (12 mph), then in a different tone for 90 more seconds.

Frost / icy road warning (snowflake)

Toyota calls it “Low outside temperature indicator”.

At about 3 °C (37 °F) or lower the indicator flashes for about 10 seconds, then stays on.
