AEG dishwasher error codes

14 codes that AEG publishes for its dishwashers, each with what it means, the likely cause, what you can safely check and when to call a technician. Tap your code:

Switch off and unplug before checking. Anything electrical, anything to do with gas, and any water leak at the mains: call a technician. Codes that need one are marked Technician.

Read this first

AEG dishwashers show codes that start with i (i10, i20 …); models without a display beep or flash a light the same number of times as the code's first digit (i10 = 1 beep, i20 = 2). Every code below is on AEG UK's own support site. Electrolux and Zanussi dishwashers are made by the same group and often use the same i-codes, but the source here is AEG's: check your own manual.

i10 i11 Water not coming in

Also shown as AL5, C1 or F1, or as 1 beep / 1 flash on models without a display.

What it means
A water-inlet problem: the dishwasher is not getting enough water.
Likely cause
A closed tap, low water pressure (other appliances using water at the same time), a kinked inlet hose, a clogged filter in the inlet hose — or a drain hose fitted too low.
What you can safely check

Switch off and unplug before checking.

  • Make sure the tap is fully open. AEG's pressure test: a 5-litre bucket should fill from one tap in 30 seconds.
  • Check the inlet hose for kinks or twists. If it is damaged, unplug the dishwasher and shut off the water: it needs an engineer.
  • Close the tap, then clean the filter in the inlet-hose connector next to the tap.
  • Check the drain hose: its outlet must be 40–85 cm above the floor, no longer than 4 m, not kinked. On a new installation, make sure the blanking plug was removed from the sink trap.
When to call a technician
If the water supply, hoses and filter are fine, book a technician.

i20 Not draining

Also shown as C2, F2 or AL6, or as 2 beeps.

What it means
The dishwasher cannot pump the water out within the expected time.
Likely cause
A clogged sink spigot or trap, blocked filters or sump, or a drain hose that is kinked, too long or at the wrong height.
What you can safely check

Switch off and unplug before checking.

  • Clean the filters and the sump.
  • Make sure the sink spigot the drain hose connects to is not clogged.
  • Drain hose: outlet 40–85 cm above the floor, no longer than 4 m, not kinked or damaged.
  • New installation: make sure the blanking plug was removed from the sink trap.
When to call a technician
If it still does not drain, book a technician.

i30 Water leak: anti-flood activated

Also shown as 3 beeps / 3 flashes.

What it means
The anti-flood system has detected water in the base of the dishwasher.
Likely cause
Usually an internal leak into the base.
What you can safely check

Switch off and unplug before checking.

  • Close the water tap.
  • Check the dishwasher is level, that nothing blocks the spray arms, that the filters, spray arms and sump are clean and that the door seal is clean and undamaged.
  • Unplug it and leave it overnight with the tap closed; the error can clear once the base dries.
When to call a technician
Technician Water leak: if i30 comes back, close the tap and call a technician. AEG says the leak itself usually needs a service visit.

i40 i43 i44 Water-level (pressure sensor) problem

Also shown as 4 beeps.

What it means
The dishwasher cannot measure the water level accurately.
Likely cause
A pressure-sensor fault; foam or debris in the sump can trigger it.
What you can safely check

Switch off and unplug before checking.

  • Unplug the dishwasher for about 5 minutes, then plug it in again.
  • Clean all the filters and clear any foam or suds from the sump.
When to call a technician
If the code returns, book a technician.

i50 Wash motor or circulation pump fault

What it means
The control has found an abnormal condition in the motor drive circuit.
Likely cause
A wash-motor or circulation-pump fault.
What you can safely check

Switch off and unplug before checking.

  • Switch off at the mains for about 1 minute, then on again.
  • Clean the filters and clear any foam from the sump.
When to call a technician
Technician Electrical: if the code returns, book a technician.

i60 i61 i69 i6C Heating problem

What it means
The dishwasher cannot heat the water correctly or does not see the expected temperature rise.
Likely cause
Water inside too hot, or a temperature-sensor or heating fault.
What you can safely check

Switch off and unplug before checking.

  • If the dishwasher is on a hot fill, the incoming water must not be above 60 °C.
  • Unplug it, clean all the filters and clear foam from the sump, plug in and run a programme.
When to call a technician
Technician Electrical: if the code returns, book a technician.

iF0 iF1 Water-level control problem

iF0 may look like iFo on the display.

What it means
The dishwasher sees an incorrect fill level or abnormal water level.
Likely cause
Foam or debris, or a level-control fault.
What you can safely check

Switch off and unplug before checking.

  • Unplug the dishwasher, clean all the filters and clear foam from the sump, plug in and run a programme.
When to call a technician
If the code returns, book a technician.
