AEG hob error codes

26 codes that AEG publishes for its hobs, each with what it means, the likely cause, what you can safely check and when to call a service engineer. Tap your code:

Hob: do only the checks the maker gives for that code. A built-in hob is wired in, so where a maker says to cut the power, switch it off at the fuse box (circuit breaker); never lift the hob out of the worktop or open it. The electrical connection is for the installer or a qualified electrician, and anything past the maker’s own checks is for the maker’s service engineer. Codes that need one are marked Engineer.

Read this first

AEG induction and ceramic hobs show a letter on the zone’s display: F on its own when the hob cannot find a pan, F and a digit for a SenseBoil or other fault, and E with one to three digits for electronics, overheating and installation faults. Many E codes come in families — E4 covers E401 to E433 — so match the first digit if yours is not listed. AEG’s first step for almost every code is a 30-second reset at the fuse box. These are from AEG UK’s own support articles; Electrolux and Zanussi hobs come from the same group, but models differ, so check your manual.

F No pan found on the zone

What it means
A flashing F on its own means the induction zone has not registered a pan, or the pan has been taken off.
Likely cause
A pan that does not work on induction, one too big or too small for the zone, or a pan placed after the zone was switched on.
What you can safely check

Hob: do only the checks the maker gives for that code. A built-in hob is wired in, so where a maker says to cut the power, switch it off at the fuse box (circuit breaker); never lift the hob out of the worktop or open it.

  • Test the pan with a fridge magnet: if it sticks firmly to the base, the pan is suitable for induction.
  • Use a pan that suits the size of the zone, and put it on the zone before you switch the zone on.
  • Make sure the hob and the pan base are dry.
When to call a service engineer
A constant F on a newly installed hob: AEG says get your approved installer to check the installation. If F stays with a suitable pan, AEG says it could be a connection fault: book an AEG service engineer.

F1 F2 Fault shown as F and a digit

What it means
AEG groups F1 and F2 with a SenseBoil function that does not work; unlike a lone F, an F with a digit is a fault for its engineer to find.
Likely cause
AEG does not say more than that the hob needs to be looked at.
What you can safely check

  • Reset it: switch the hob off at the fuse box (circuit breaker) for at least 30 seconds, then back on. AEG says a built-in hob does not need its cable disconnected — the breaker is enough.
When to call a service engineer
Engineer If the reset has not cleared it, AEG recommends booking a service engineer to find the fault.

F3 SenseBoil: wrong amount of water

What it means
On hobs with SenseBoil, the automatic boil has stopped because there is too much or too little water in the pot, or something other than water and potatoes is being boiled.
Likely cause
SenseBoil only works within AEG’s limits for water and pot.
What you can safely check

Hob: do only the checks the maker gives for that code. A built-in hob is wired in, so where a maker says to cut the power, switch it off at the fuse box (circuit breaker); never lift the hob out of the worktop or open it.

  • Make sure the surface of the hob is dry.
  • Do not start a zone with an empty pot on it.
  • Fill the pot between half and three-quarters with cold tap water, leaving 4 cm empty below the rim; use 1 to 5 litres, and keep water plus potatoes between 1 and 5 kg.
  • Boil only water, or water and potatoes.
When to call a service engineer
If F3 appears with the pot filled as AEG describes, book an AEG service engineer.

E0 E1 E011 E012 E013 Electronics fault

What it means
AEG: these codes indicate a fault with the electronics.
Likely cause
A fault on the control electronics; a reset sometimes clears a one-off error.
What you can safely check

E2 LED lighting fault (induction)

Also any code starting E2, such as E20x.

What it means
On an induction hob, E2 or a code beginning E2 is an error in the LED lighting of the display. On a teppanyaki plate it is the temperature sensor.
Likely cause
A fault in the display lighting or sensor.
What you can safely check

  • Reset it: switch the hob off at the fuse box (circuit breaker) for at least 30 seconds, then back on. AEG says a built-in hob does not need its cable disconnected — the breaker is enough.

If the reset does not clear it, book an AEG service engineer; quote the code — AEG says it helps the engineer find the cause.

E3 E311 E312 Installation or supply problem

What it means
AEG: these codes typically point to an installation or electrical-supply issue, often on a newly installed hob or one moved to a different supply.
Likely cause
A wrong connection, a first connection, a different outlet or an overloaded circuit. The same symptoms can include only some zones working, beeps or a tripping fuse.
What you can safely check

  • Check the supply with another appliance: if there is no power, AEG says consult a qualified electrician.
  • If the fuse trips again and again, AEG says it points to a deeper electrical issue — leave it to the electrician.
When to call a service engineer
Engineer AEG strongly recommends not attempting repairs yourself. Contact your installer to check the hob was set up correctly, or an AEG authorised service centre.

E4 E401 E402 E403 E421 E422 E423 E431 E432 E433 Overheating protection on

What it means
The hob’s overheating protection has switched in.
Likely cause
AEG: an installation issue (for example too little ventilation) or cookware that is not suitable for induction.
What you can safely check

Hob: do only the checks the maker gives for that code. A built-in hob is wired in, so where a maker says to cut the power, switch it off at the fuse box (circuit breaker); never lift the hob out of the worktop or open it.

  • Switch the hob off, take the pans off and let it cool. The code should go once it is cool; the residual-heat H may stay for a while.
  • Check your pans are made for induction: iron or iron-based with a flat base; a kitchen magnet should stick firmly to the base.
  • Reset it: switch the hob off at the fuse box (circuit breaker) for at least 30 seconds, then back on. AEG says a built-in hob does not need its cable disconnected — the breaker is enough.
When to call a service engineer
If the steps above do not clear it, AEG recommends a visit from a service engineer.

E8 E822 Wrong connection or electronics error

Also other codes starting E8.

What it means
On a new installation, the hob has been connected to the power supply wrongly (for example a missing phase). On a hob that worked before, E8 is an error in communication between its electronics.
Likely cause
AEG gives both: an incorrect installation, or an electronics error.
What you can safely check

  • New installation: contact the installer to check the connection against AEG’s installation instructions.
  • Hob that worked before: reset it: switch the hob off at the fuse box (circuit breaker) for at least 30 seconds, then back on. AEG says a built-in hob does not need its cable disconnected — the breaker is enough.
When to call a service engineer
Engineer If that does not resolve it, book an AEG service engineer. AEG does not recommend using the hob until the issue is fully resolved.

E9 Electronic module fault

What it means
AEG: a potential fault on the circuit board (the electronic module).
Likely cause
AEG warns it is likely an electrical problem that needs a qualified person to diagnose.
What you can safely check

A code that is not listed here

For a code not listed here, AEG’s advice is the same as for its listed faults: reset the hob at the fuse box for at least 30 seconds, and if the code comes back, book an AEG service engineer and quote the code. AEG does not recommend using the hob until an electronics fault is fixed.
