Bosch hob error codes

9 codes that Bosch publishes for its hobs, each with what it means, the likely cause, what you can safely check and when to call a service engineer. Tap your code:

Hob: do only the checks the maker gives for that code. A built-in hob is wired in, so where a maker says to cut the power, switch it off at the fuse box (circuit breaker); never lift the hob out of the worktop or open it. The electrical connection is for the installer or a qualified electrician, and anything past the maker’s own checks is for the maker’s service engineer. Codes that need one are marked Engineer.

Bosch, Neff and Siemens hobs come from one maker (BSH) and share a fault-code scheme: F and a digit for overheating and the safety cut-outs, E and four digits for the mains voltage, and U400 for a hob that has been wired up wrongly. A code can flash in turn with the heat setting, and on some models you press and hold the cooking zone’s control to read the whole code. These codes are from Bosch’s manual for its PVS8..F21E venting induction hob, Bosch UK’s hob help pages and Bosch US’s induction cooktop code list. Siemens UK’s hob help lists the same F2, F4 and F8; we did not find a Neff hob code list, so on a Neff check your manual too — models differ.

F2 Electronics too hot: one zone switched off

What it means
The electronics under the glass have overheated, so the hob has switched off the cooking zone concerned to protect them.
Likely cause
Bosch UK: several zones used at high settings for a long time.
What you can safely check

Hob: do only the checks the maker gives for that code. A built-in hob is wired in, so where a maker says to cut the power, switch it off at the fuse box (circuit breaker); never lift the hob out of the worktop or open it.

  • Let the hob cool down — Bosch just says to wait a while.
  • Touch any control. When F2 no longer shows, the electronics have cooled enough and you can carry on cooking.
When to call a service engineer
Bosch gives no other remedy. If F2 comes back every time you cook at ordinary settings, book a Bosch service engineer and quote the code.

F4 Electronics too hot: every zone switched off

What it means
The electronics have overheated and the hob has switched off all the cooking zones.
Likely cause
The same overheating as F2, affecting the whole hob. Bosch US lists F2, F4 and E7015 together as overheated electronics.
What you can safely check

Hob: do only the checks the maker gives for that code. A built-in hob is wired in, so where a maker says to cut the power, switch it off at the fuse box (circuit breaker); never lift the hob out of the worktop or open it.

  • Wait until the electronics have cooled down enough, then touch any symbol on the hob.
When to call a service engineer
If F4 keeps coming back once the hob is cool, book a Bosch service engineer and quote the code.

F5 Hot pan near the control panel

What it means
A hot pan is standing on or next to the touch controls. If F5 flashes in turn with the heat setting and beeps, the hob is warning you the electronics could overheat; if F5 shows with a beep on its own, the zone has already been switched off to protect them.
Likely cause
A pan pushed or put down over the control strip.
What you can safely check

Hob: do only the checks the maker gives for that code. A built-in hob is wired in, so where a maker says to cut the power, switch it off at the fuse box (circuit breaker); never lift the hob out of the worktop or open it.

  • Take the pan off the control panel.
  • F5 with the heat setting: the code goes out shortly afterwards and you can carry on cooking.
  • F5 alone: wait a few seconds, then touch any control. When F5 goes out, you can carry on cooking.
When to call a service engineer
Bosch’s manual: do not put hot pans on the control panel. If F5 shows with no pan anywhere near the controls, contact Bosch’s after-sales service.

F1 F6 Cooking zone overheated

What it means
The cooking zone itself has got too hot and has been switched off to protect your worktop.
Likely cause
Bosch US lists F1 and F6 as an overheated cooking zone.
What you can safely check

Hob: do only the checks the maker gives for that code. A built-in hob is wired in, so where a maker says to cut the power, switch it off at the fuse box (circuit breaker); never lift the hob out of the worktop or open it.

  • Wait until the hob has cooled down enough before switching the zone on again.
When to call a service engineer
If the zone keeps switching off with F1 or F6, book a Bosch service engineer and quote the code.

F8 Zone switched off after running too long

What it means
A zone has been on for a long time without being touched, so the automatic safety switch-off has turned it off. Nothing is broken.
Likely cause
The zone ran longer than its time limit for that heat setting. Bosch US shows it as F8 with H or h for residual heat.
What you can safely check

  • Switch the hob back on — Bosch says no other action is needed.
When to call a service engineer
No engineer needed for F8 on its own.

E9000 E9010 Mains voltage wrong

What it means
The voltage reaching the hob is wrong or outside its normal operating range.
Likely cause
A problem with the electricity supply to the house or the hob’s circuit, not a fault the hob can fix itself.
What you can safely check

  • Bosch’s remedy is to contact your electricity supplier.
When to call a service engineer
If your supply is found to be normal and E9000 or E9010 stays, contact Bosch’s after-sales service with the code.

U400 Hob not connected properly

What it means
The hob has not been wired up correctly (Bosch US: incorrect supply voltage).
Likely cause
Usually shows on a new installation: the hob was connected differently from its circuit diagram.
What you can safely check

  • Switch the hob off at the fuse box — Bosch says to disconnect it from the power supply.
When to call a service engineer
Engineer Bosch says the hob must be connected as shown in its circuit diagram. That is the installer’s job: have the installer or a qualified electrician check the connection.

A code that is not listed here

Bosch’s manual: if the code is not in its table, disconnect the hob from the power supply (at the fuse box), wait 30 seconds and switch it back on. If the code comes back, contact Bosch’s after-sales service and tell them exactly which code appeared, with the E-number and FD number from the rating plate or the appliance certificate.
