Miele dishwasher error codes
7 codes that Miele publishes for its dishwashers, each with what it means, the likely cause, what you can safely check and when to call a technician. Tap your code:

Read this first
Miele dishwashers with a text display (the manual cited is for Miele's touch-display dishwashers, M.-Nr. 11 831 681) write most faults out in words; a few show a number after 'Fault F'. When one appears, the optical in-operation indicator flashes quickly and the alarm tone sounds. The codes and messages below are the ones that manual lists. Older Miele dishwashers show numbered codes such as F11 or F14 that this manual does not cover; Miele's online support pages refused our requests (HTTP 403), so those are not listed.
Fault F 18 Technical fault in the water intake
- What it means
- The display reads 'Fault F 18: A technical fault has occurred'. Miele lists it under water inlet faults.
- Likely cause
- A technical fault.
- What you can safely check
Switch off and unplug before checking.
- Switch the dishwasher off and close the stopcock.
- When to call a technician
- Technician Miele's manual sends this straight to Miele service: call a technician.

Fault F 78 Circulation pump fault
- What it means
- A circulation-pump fault.
- Likely cause
- A circulation-pump fault.
- What you can safely check
Switch off and unplug before checking.
- Switch the dishwasher off, switch it back on, choose the programme and close the door.
- When to call a technician
- Technician If F 78 appears again: switch off, close the stopcock and call a technician.

Fault F 601 AutoDos fault
- What it means
- A fault in the AutoDos automatic detergent dispensing, shown at the end of a programme.
- Likely cause
- A PowerDisk or its holder not fitted correctly, or an AutoDos fault.
- What you can safely check
Switch off and unplug before checking.
- Switch off and on again, check the PowerDisk holder and PowerDisk are fitted correctly, switch AutoDos back on and restart.
- If it comes back you can keep using the dishwasher: switch automatic dispensing off in the programme's Extras menu and add detergent by hand.
- When to call a technician
- To use automatic dispensing again, call a Miele service technician.

Fault F Technical fault
- What it means
- 'Fault F: Technical fault. Switch the appliance off and back on again.'
- Likely cause
- There may be a technical fault.
- What you can safely check
Switch off and unplug before checking.
- Switch off, switch back on after a few seconds, select the programme and close the door.
- When to call a technician
- Technician If it appears again: switch off, close the stopcock and call a technician.

Waterproof fault Waterproof system reacted
- What it means
- 'Waterproof fault: Switch the appliance off, close the stopcock, call Miele Service.' The leak-protection system has reacted.
- Likely cause
- Water where it should not be.
- What you can safely check
Switch off and unplug before checking.
- Switch the dishwasher off and close the stopcock.
- When to call a technician
- Technician Water leak: call a technician.

Insufficient water intake Not enough water coming in
- What it means
- 'Insufficient water intake. Open the stopcock fully.' ('Please open the stopcock' means it is closed.)
- Likely cause
- A closed or partly closed stopcock, a dirty inlet filter, water pressure below 50 kPa, or a drain connection that is too low.
- What you can safely check
Switch off and unplug before checking.
- Open the stopcock fully and start the programme again.
- Clean the filter in the water inlet as the manual shows.
- When to call a technician
- If pressure is below 50 kPa, Miele says to seek professional advice; otherwise call a Miele service technician if it continues.

Water was not pumped away Drainage fault
- What it means
- 'Water was not pumped away, see operating instructions.' There may be water in the wash cabinet.
- Likely cause
- Dirty filters or drain pump, or a kinked or looped drain hose.
- What you can safely check
Switch off and unplug before checking.
- Switch off first.
- Clean the filter combination and the drain pump as the manual shows.
- Remove any kinks or loops in the drain hose.
- When to call a technician
- If it still does not drain, call a technician.

A code that is not listed here
Miele's manual says any other 'Fault F' number is a technical fault: switch off, switch back on after a few seconds and restart; if it reappears, switch off, close the stopcock and call Miele.
