Read this first

Samsung washing machines show number codes (4C, 5E …) and letter codes (dC, UE …). Many come in pairs — C on newer models, E on older ones — and some older machines show E1 to E9 instead. Samsung warns that 5 and S, and 3 and E, look alike on the display: check your code carefully. Every code below is on Samsung UK's own support page.

4C 4E E1 Water supply problem

What it means
Not enough water is coming in.

A closed tap, low pressure, a blocked mesh filter or a clogged or kinked supply hose.

  • Open the tap fully. Samsung gives 0.5–8 bar and at least 4 litres a minute from the tap.

What it means
The water is not draining away.
Likely cause
A blocked drain-pump filter, or a kinked or blocked drain hose or waste connection.

  • Drain the leftover water with the emergency hose, then clean the drain-pump filter.
  • Check the drain hose and waste connection for kinks and blockages; Samsung says the drain hose outlet should be at least 60 cm high.
