Hotpoint washing machine error codes

14 codes that Hotpoint publishes for its washing machines, each with what it means, the likely cause, what you can safely check and when to call a technician. Tap your code:

Hotpoint washing machines show an F code on the display, or — on models without one — a pattern of flashing LEDs that Hotpoint's page maps to the same F code. Every code below is on Hotpoint UK's own error-code page. Indesit and Whirlpool washing machines come from the same group and often use similar codes, but the source here is Hotpoint's: check your own manual before relying on it for another brand.

F01 Electronic circuit board fault

What it means
The machine is not working: some or all functions cannot be selected.
Likely cause
An electronic board fault.

What it means
The drum turns only now and then, or not at all, during the wash.
Likely cause
A motor-circuit fault.

What it means
The door will not open, or it opens but water stays in the drum.
Likely cause
A blocked pump filter, waste hose or under-sink plumbing — or a failed pump.
What you can safely check

  • Check the pump filter for blockages, if your model has one (see the handbook).
  • Check the waste-water hose and the under-sink plumbing for blockages.

F06 Door lock fault

What it means
The door cannot be opened or closed, or the machine will not start with it closed.
Likely cause
An obstruction in the door lock, or a door-lock fault.
