Signal bars and no-connection icons on a CPAP machine

Many machines have a built-in mobile (cellular) modem that sends your nightly data to your equipment provider; ResMed says it is usually sent after therapy has stopped. The bars show signal strength. No signal does not affect the therapy itself; it only means the data may not arrive.

Therapy settings: This page explains what a CPAP machine’s screen or light is telling you, in the maker’s words. It is not medical advice: ask your equipment provider or clinician about your therapy settings, and do not change your pressure or any prescribed setting because of anything here.

ResMed

  1. ResMed AirSense 10 An icon on the screen

    Wireless signal strength (green bars)

Shown at the top right of the screen: all bars means good coverage, fewer bars means poor coverage.

    What ResMed says to do

    1. If your data has not been sent, place the machine where there is coverage: on your bedside table, not in a drawer or on the floor.
    2. Leave it connected to the power outlet and not in Airplane Mode; the data is usually sent after therapy stops.

  2. ResMed AirSense 10 An icon on the screen

    No wireless connection

    No wireless network is available.

    What ResMed says to do

    1. Place the machine where there is coverage (on your bedside table, not in a drawer or on the floor).
    2. If you have been told to, send the SD card to your care provider: it also holds your therapy data.

  4. ResMed AirSense 11 An icon on the screen

Cellular signal strength; No cellular connection

The first shows the strength of the mobile connection; the second means cellular coverage is not available. Without a connection, therapy data may not reach your care provider and new prescription settings may not reach the machine.

    What ResMed says to do

    1. Place the machine where there is coverage (on your bedside table, not in a drawer or on the floor).
    2. Make sure it is not in Airplane Mode.

Philips Respironics

  1. Philips Respironics DreamStation 2 An icon on the screen

Shows the signal strength of the cellular modem on machines that have one. It is not shown in Airplane Mode.

The manual gives no step for a weak signal.

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare

  1. Fisher & Paykel Healthcare SleepStyle An icon on the screen

Modem icon; modem icon with a line through it

The modem icon shows the modem is on and working correctly (not available in every country). With a line through it, the modem is turned off or has failed to connect: you are still treated, but your data may not be uploaded to your healthcare provider.

What Fisher & Paykel Healthcare says to do

    1. Section 5.1 (Modem) of the guide explains the modem setting. If the problem persists, contact your healthcare provider.

React Health

  1. React Health Luna G3 An icon on the screen

Signal icons: strong, moderate, weak, no signal found

With the optional Cellular Module fitted, one of four signal icons appears in the status bar. With a weak signal, data sending may slow down or stop; the module keeps searching until it finds a signal. No icon at all can mean the module is not connected properly or not working.

What React Health says to do

    1. React Health warns not to place computers, televisions, radios or similar devices near the Cellular Module.
