Heated tube icon and tube errors on a CPAP machine

A heated tube has a heating wire and an electrical connector at the machine end, so the machine can tell whether it is connected. Its icon either shows it working, turns into a number (the heat level), or gets a line through it.

Philips Respironics

    Tube Error

    Heated tube error (only when a heated tube is fitted): the heated tube may be overheated or damaged.

    What Philips Respironics says to do

    1. Turn off the device.
    2. Detach the heated tube, make sure it is not covered or obstructed, then reattach it.
    3. If the alert continues, contact your provider.

    ThermoSmart icon

    The ThermoSmart breathing tube is connected and working correctly.

    No action is needed.

    ThermoSmart icon with a line through it, or missing

    The tube may not be connected correctly, or there may be an error with the ThermoSmart tube. You are still treated and still get humidity, but it may not be optimal. You may also be using a standard (unheated) tube.

    What Fisher & Paykel Healthcare says to do

    1. Remove the ThermoSmart tube from the device and reconnect it, making sure the electrical connectors click together. When it is connected correctly the icon appears on the home screen.
    2. If you may be using a standard tube, consult your healthcare provider.

    There may be a problem with the ThermoSmart breathing tube. The device is still safe to use; you are still treated and get humidity, but it may not be optimal.

    1. Try reconnecting the ThermoSmart tube; when it is connected correctly the ThermoSmart icon appears.
    2. Or turn the power off and on at the power supply to restart the device.

    Heated tubing icon turns into a number

    When the heated tubing is connected correctly, its icon on the main screen becomes a number: the heat level, one of five. A 3 next to the icon means level 3.

    No action is needed.
