ResMed CPAP machine icons, messages and lights
ResMed makes the AirSense 10 (a dial and a small colour screen), the AirSense 11 (a touch screen) and the AirMini travel machine (no screen: its options live in the AirMini phone app, and the machine talks to you through indicator lights).
Therapy settings: This page explains what a CPAP machine’s screen or light is telling you, in the maker’s words. It is not medical advice: ask your equipment provider or clinician about your therapy settings, and do not change your pressure or any prescribed setting because of anything here.

High leak detected, connect your tubing
ResMed gives two possible causes: the air tubing may not be connected properly, or the mask may be fitted incorrectly.
What ResMed says to do
- Make sure the air tubing is firmly connected at both ends.
- Make sure the mask is fitted correctly: see the mask’s own user guide, or use the Mask Fit function to check the fit and seal.
More on this, and what other makers’ machines show: High leak.

High leak detected, check your water tub, tub seal or side cover
The leak is at the humidifier, not the mask: the water tub may not be inserted properly, or the seal inside its lid may not be in place.
What ResMed says to do
- Make sure the water tub is correctly inserted.
- Open the water tub and make sure the seal is correctly inserted.

Mask Seal (Sleep Report): “Good mask seal” or “Needs adjusting”
After you stop therapy the Sleep Report shows one of two icons for Mask Seal, which the guide labels “Good mask seal” and “Needs adjusting, see Mask Fit”. It says how well the mask sealed during the session.
What ResMed says to do
- If it needs adjusting, run Mask Fit: in My Options highlight Run Mask Fit and press the dial. The machine starts blowing air.
- Adjust the mask, the mask cushion and the headgear until you get a Good result. Press the dial or Start/Stop to stop Mask Fit.
- If you cannot get a good seal, talk to your care provider.

Humidity, Humidifier warming, Humidifier cooling
Three of the icons the AirSense 10 screen can show. Humidity Level is set in My Options, from Off or 1 (lowest) to 8 (highest). Warming and cooling show the humidifier heating up before therapy or cooling down after it.
These icons need no action.

ResMed AirSense 10 Something the machine does
Still blowing air after you stop therapy
The machine is cooling down: it blows a small amount of air so that water does not condense in the air tubing.
What ResMed says to do
- Nothing to do: ResMed says it stops automatically after 30 minutes.

Ramp Time and Ramp Time Auto icons; the spinning circle
Ramp Time is the period during which the pressure rises from a low start pressure to your prescribed pressure; with Auto the machine detects when you have fallen asleep and then rises. During ramp the Sleep Report screen shows a spinning circle; once the prescribed pressure is reached the whole circle is green.
What ResMed says to do
- If the air feels too weak, ResMed’s first explanation is that ramp may be in progress: wait for the air pressure to build up.

What ResMed says to do
- If your data has not been sent, place the machine where there is coverage: on your bedside table, not in a drawer or on the floor.
- Leave it connected to the power outlet and not in Airplane Mode; the data is usually sent after therapy stops.

System fault, refer to user guide, Error 4
ResMed gives three possible causes: the machine may have been left somewhere hot; the air filter may be blocked; there may be water in the air tubing.

- Check the air filter and replace it if it is blocked.

Prescription settings have not been applied
If the machine was sent straight to your home, the prescription settings may not be on it yet: they arrive over the wireless connection. ResMed lists poor coverage, Airplane Mode, or data transfer not being enabled as causes.
What ResMed says to do
- Keep the machine set up and connected to power so settings can be applied wirelessly.
- Place it where there is coverage (on your bedside table, not in a drawer or on the floor), and turn Airplane Mode off.
- If data transfer is not enabled, talk to your care provider about your settings.

ResMed AirMini Something the machine does
Therapy stops by itself (high leak with SmartStop on)
ResMed lists “My therapy has stopped” with two causes: the air tubing may be disconnected, or there may be a high leak while SmartStop is enabled (SmartStop ends therapy when it senses the mask has come off). The AirMini has no screen to show a leak message.
What ResMed says to do
- Make sure the air tubing is properly connected, then press Start/Stop to continue therapy.
- Make sure the mask is fitted correctly.
The guide also names a SmartStop setting change; that is a question for your equipment provider.

ResMed AirMini Something the machine does
Mask Fit (AirMini app)
On the AirMini, Mask Fit runs from the AirMini phone app, not the machine.
What ResMed says to do
- If air leaks from around the mask or the mask is noisy, make sure the mask is fitted correctly (see its user guide) or run Mask Fit in the app.
- Make sure the AirMini system is correctly assembled.

ResMed AirMini Something the machine does
Air feels too weak at the start (ramp in the AirMini app)
The AirMini’s ramp is set in the app. ResMed lists ramp in progress as one cause of pressure that seems too low; others are a blocked or wet HumidX or a blocked vent.
What ResMed says to do
- Confirm in the AirMini app whether Ramp is enabled; if it is, wait for the air pressure to build up.
- Inspect the HumidX and the vent for blockage or damage; the HumidX should be dry when you start therapy.

Flashing blue: the machine is discoverable and ready to pair. Constantly blue: it is connected to your smartphone. Off: it is not connected to your smartphone. Once therapy starts the light fades.
What ResMed says to do
- If it will not reconnect, turn the machine off at the wall socket and on again after 10 seconds; if it still will not pair, repeat the pairing steps in the guide.

Light above Start/Stop: green, or flashing green
The green light above the Start/Stop button shows the machine has power (the power supply unit has its own green light too). Flashing green means an error has occurred on the machine.
What ResMed says to do
- If it flashes green, unplug the machine, wait a few seconds and plug it back in.
- If the problem persists, contact your care provider. Do not open the machine.
- If you cannot start therapy and there is no green light, connect the power supply and make sure the plug is fully inserted.
