Samsung fridge-freezer symbols
The 7 symbols that Samsung’s own fridge-freezer manuals explain, with Samsung’s name for each, what it does on a Samsung, the manual’s own words and the document it comes from. The drawing is ours; tap a symbol for its full page.
Samsung puts most of its symbols inside the two temperature readouts rather than on separate buttons: on the fridge-freezer manuals checked here, the Power Cool and Vacation icons appear in the fridge indicator, the Power Freeze icon in the freezer indicator, and one button steps through the temperatures and these functions for whichever compartment is blinking. American-style models add an Ice Maker and a Water Filter indicator.
Makes differ, check your fridge’s manual: the same drawing can mean different things on different brands, and only your model’s manual says exactly what a button does, what temperature it sets and when it switches itself off.
A code on the display instead of a symbol? Samsung fridge freezer error codes
Super freeze / fast freeze (snowflakes)
Samsung calls it: Power Freeze
Runs for 50 hours, then goes back to your setting by itself. Switch it on 20 hours before a big load of fresh food, not after.
“Power Freeze speeds up the freezing process at maximum fan speed. The freezer keeps running at full speed for 50 hours and then returns to the previous temperature. To freeze large amounts of food, activate Power Freeze for at least 20 hours before putting food in the freezer.”

Super cool / fast cool (fridge)
Samsung calls it: Power Cool
Only 2½ hours, far shorter than Power Freeze. It is picked from the fridge’s temperature list, at the cold end next to 1 °C.
“Power Cool speeds up the cooling process at maximum fan speed. The fridge keeps running at full speed for two and a half hours and then returns to the previous temperature.”

Holiday / vacation mode (sun, beach or suitcase)
Samsung calls it: Vacation
The fridge may warm up to 17 °C, so empty it first; the freezer carries on at its setting.
“Use the Vacation function if you are going on vacation or a business trip, or if you do not intend to use the fridge for an extended time. The fridge temperature will be kept under 17 °C, but the freezer remains active as previously set.”

Door-open alarm (open door or bell)
Samsung calls it: Door open indicator
Beeps after 2 minutes; after 5 minutes the inside light also blinks, as a visual alert, then goes off.
“This indicator blinks with an alarm if the door is left open for more than 2 minutes. … If the door is left open for 5 minutes, internal light will blink for 5 minutes and turn off. This is to alert hearing-impaired users that a door is open.”

Temperature alarm (freezer too warm)
Samsung calls it: Temperature Alarm
Tap any button and the warmest temperature reached is shown for 5 seconds; that number tells you whether the food thawed. Expect it once on a brand-new fridge.
“If the freezer temperature is too warm because there has been a power failure, the display blinks as shown in the figure. … the "warmest temperature" which has reached in the freezer and fridge compartment is flashed on the display for 5 seconds. … This warning may occur; When the appliance is turned on for the first time after the installation.”

Ice maker off (ice cubes, crossed or unlit)
Samsung calls it: Ice Maker indicator
Switched from the panel: tap until the Ice Maker indicator blinks, choose on or off, and wait 5 seconds to confirm.
“Displays the status of the ice maker. … To enable ice making, you must turn on the ice maker. … You can turn on or off the auto ice maker in the freezer.”

Water filter change light
Samsung calls it: Water Filter indicator
You can dismiss it with “Later” and change the filter afterwards; after a new filter, choose “Reset” so the icon stops blinking.
“The water filter replacement icon … blinks to alert the user that it is time to replace the water filter. You can replace the water filter immediately and reset the water filter replacement alarm, or dismiss the alarm if you want to change the water filter later.”

Not in the Samsung manuals checked
The Samsung documents below do not show these symbols from this site, so they are left off this page: One star (*), Two stars (**), Three stars (***), Four stars (one large star and three small), No stars, Chill compartment, No frost / auto defrost, Eco mode on a fridge-freezer, Sabbath mode, Showroom / demo mode, Temperature zones and the “OK” indicator and Humidity control on the vegetable drawer. That does not mean no Samsung fridge has one, only that the manuals read here do not. If yours shows a symbol not listed, find it by its shape.
