Haier fridge-freezer symbols

The 7 symbols that Haier’s own fridge-freezer manuals explain, with Haier’s name for each, what it does on a Haier, the manual’s own words and the document it comes from. The drawing is ours; tap a symbol for its full page.

The Haier guide checked here is for the HRF680YZC and HRF680YZS quad-door fridge-freezers sold in Australia and New Zealand. It is the only Haier fridge user guide we found on a Haier web address: Haier UK’s manuals download from a third-party file host. The touch panel names each button with a capital letter (A to K) and lights the indicator with the same lower-case letter while that function is on. The panel locks itself after 30 seconds without a touch, so unlock it before trying any button below. Other Haier ranges may have a different panel, so compare with your own manual.

Makes differ, check your fridge’s manual: the same drawing can mean different things on different brands, and only your model’s manual says exactly what a button does, what temperature it sets and when it switches itself off.

Super cool / fast cool (fridge)

Haier calls it: Super Cool (indicator g)

It stops by itself once the fridge reaches its coldest setting, not after a set number of hours. While it runs you cannot change the fridge temperature, and switching on Auto Set or Holiday mode cancels it.

“In Super Cool mode the fridge compartment will be set to it’s lowest temperature until it cools down to that temperature. Use it to help cool food faster. … The refrigerator will automatically turns off the function once the product reaches the lowest temperature.”

Super freeze / fast freeze (snowflakes)

Haier calls it: Super Freeze (indicator h)

The same rule as Super Cool, for the freezer: it runs until the freezer reaches the coldest end of its −14 to −24 °C range, then switches itself off.

“In Super Freeze mode the freezer compartment will be set to it’s lowest temperature until it cools down to that temperature. Use it to help freeze food faster. … The refrigerator will automatically turns off the function once the product reaches the lowest temperature.”

Holiday / vacation mode (sun, beach or suitcase)

Haier calls it: Holiday mode (button B)

The fridge goes up to 17 °C, warmer than the Bosch setting of +14 °C, so empty it and the ice maker first. Switching on Super Cool, Super Freeze, Auto Set or the ice maker ends Holiday mode.

“Holiday mode is designed to save power and prevent odors while not using your fridge for a long time. In Holiday mode the fridge will be set to 17 °C. The freezer and switch zone will remain at their chosen temperatures. … IMPORTANT! Before using the Holiday function, please empty the fridge and ice maker to prevent spoilage of food stuffs.”

Chill compartment (0 °C drawer, BioFresh, cold storage)

Haier calls it: 0 °C Fresh mode (My Zone drawer)

Here the chill drawer is one of three modes of the My Zone drawer, picked with button C. The drawer starts in Fruit & Vegetable mode, so it is not at 0 °C until you choose 0 °C Fresh.

“The My Zone drawer has three modes. Fruit & Vegetable mode is suitable for Fruit and Vegetables … 0 °C Fresh mode is suitable for keeping Fish and Meat fresh. … The default setting for the My Zone is the Fruit and Vegetable mode.”

Water filter change light

Haier calls it: Filter Reset indicator (i)

The reminder counts time, six months, not litres. Hold button I for 3 seconds after fitting the new filter.

“After six months of operation, the reminder indicator "i" (Filter Reset indication) will illuminate. After you replace the Water Filter hold the button "I" (Filter Reset selector) for 3 seconds to cancel the reminder.”

Ice maker off (ice cubes, crossed or unlit)

Haier calls it: Ice Maker mode (indicator j)

Indicator j unlit means the ice maker is off. Turning it on cancels Holiday mode.

“When the display screen is unlocked, press the button "J" (Ice Maker mode selector) to turn on the Ice Make function. The indicator 'j' (Ice Maker mode) will be illuminated. Press the button "j" (Ice Maker mode selector) to turn off the Ice Make function.”

Child lock or button lock (key or padlock)

Haier calls it: Panel lock

This Haier locks its own panel after 30 seconds untouched; no button responds until you unlock it.

“The panel lock is active. Automatic lock: When the fridge door, freezer door and S-Zone door are closed and there is no key operation within 30 seconds the display screen will automatically turn off and lock.”

Not in the Haier manuals checked

The Haier documents below do not show these symbols from this site, so they are left off this page: One star (*), Two stars (**), Three stars (***), Four stars (one large star and three small), No stars, No frost / auto defrost, Eco mode on a fridge-freezer, Sabbath mode, Showroom / demo mode, Door-open alarm, Temperature alarm, Temperature zones and the “OK” indicator and Humidity control on the vegetable drawer. That does not mean no Haier fridge has one, only that the manuals read here do not. If yours shows a symbol not listed, find it by its shape.
