Roomba: Charging Error 4 or 5

4
Our drawing of a round robot from above: red light, steady (solid); error number 4 or 5.

Too little current (or none) is reaching the battery from the dock or the robot, so charging has stopped.

Applies to: Roomba 500 to 900 series, e, i, j and s series. What you notice: red light, steady (solid); error number 4 or 5. This number is iRobot’s; on another maker’s robot the same number means something else.

What iRobot says to do

  1. Clean the charging contacts on the robot and on the dock.
  2. If that does not fix it, contact iRobot Customer Care: its agents use the charging error number to decide the next step.
