What the light on your earbuds case means: AirPods, Galaxy Buds, Pixel Buds and Sony
40 light states on 4 makers’ charging cases, each from the maker’s own support page. Amber on an AirPods case means less than one full charge left; solid orange on a Pixel Buds Pro case means charging, but on a Pixel Buds Pro 2 case (lid closed, unplugged) it means the case is below 20%; on a Sony WF-1000XM5 orange flashing twice means the temperature is wrong for charging. So pick the maker, the colour, how it moves, and whether the light is about the buds or the case.

No light matches all of those. Try “Any” on one choice: makers word the same light differently (amber on one is orange on another, breathing on one is pulsing on another).
Case or buds: most cases show the earbuds’ charge while the buds are inside with the lid open, and the case’s own charge once the buds are out or the lid is closed. Where a maker names only the colour, its light matches any movement you pick.
The same colour, different meanings
Colours that at least three makers use, each for its own thing (up to two lights per maker; every light is in the list above). This is why a colour alone cannot be looked up.

What these pages cannot do
- They cannot see your earbuds. The light only says what the case thinks; the maker’s app or your phone’s Bluetooth settings show the real battery levels.
- They cannot tell makers or models apart by colour. Orange, white and green each mean different things on different cases, and Google changed its colours between the Pixel Buds Pro and the Pro 2.
- They carry only what each maker’s page states. Where a maker names a colour but not whether it is steady or flashing, the page says so, and where it gives no step, the page says that too.
- The headphones or Bluetooth icon at the top of your phone is a different thing: see the headphones icon and the Bluetooth icon.
Left out, and why
A maker gets pages when its own site documents at least 5 case light states and we could read them. These did not, or we could not read them:
- Beats earbuds (Studio Buds, Solo Buds, Powerbeats Pro 2, Beats Fit Pro) — Apple’s Beats pages describe the earbud case light only for a reset (hold the case’s system button until it flashes red and white) and for pairing afterwards (flashing white). That is two states, under the floor of five; the charging page gives light colours only for Beats Flex and the headphones. support.apple.com Checked 2026-09-29.
- Jabra Elite earbuds — Jabra’s ‘What do the LEDs on my Jabra earbuds and charging case mean?’ page answered HTTP 200, but the answer is filled in by a script and the page it served held no LED text we could read. No page yet. www.jabra.com Checked 2026-09-29.
