Tesla Wall Connector: Three red blinks, repeating

High temperature was detected, and charging is limited or disabled. With the green still streaming, charging has been reduced; if the heat keeps rising, the Wall Connector stops charging. Tesla advises installing it where the air stays below 50 °C (122 °F); in rare cases it may reduce current from 35 °C (95 °F).

What Tesla says to do

Electrical safety. Tesla ties this light to the power supply, earthing or an electrical fault, or its own steps use the circuit breaker, fuse box, RCD or isolator. The steps here are only Tesla’s own, as its page states them; semiatic gives no electrical instructions of its own.

Tesla says the wirebox checks for this light are for an electrician.

Not repeated here: Tesla’s manual also has an electrician take the Wall Connector off its wirebox to check the conductor size and terminal tightness. Those are on Tesla’s page, linked under Source.

  1. Tesla says: make sure the Wall Connector is connected to Wi-Fi so its firmware updates to the latest version, which gives the best temperature sensing.
  2. Tesla says: check the faceplate and cable handle for excessive warmth.
