What do the markings on a tyre mean?

Type the size from the sidewall (205/55 R16 91V) or the last four digits of the DOT code, and read it part by part. The tables come from UN Regulations No. 30 and 54 and US 49 CFR 574.5; nothing you type leaves this page.

Examples: 205/55 R16 91V · 225/45ZR17 94Y XL · 195/65R15 91H · 235/65 R16C 115/113R

Examples: 2319 · 0109 · DOT EJ7 LN4R 4521. Where to find it.

How to read a sidewall

On the EU tyre label

The label sold with a tyre in the EU grades it for fuel efficiency, wet grip and noise, and shows snow and ice grip. Each mark has its own page:

Load index to kilograms

Indices 0–120 from UN Regulation No. 30, Annex IV; 121–200 from UN Regulation No. 54, Annex IV (which lists 60–200 and agrees with No. 30 on every index they share). The decoder reads the same table.
