MO, MO1 and MOE for Mercedes-Benz
The tyre was developed for, and approved by, Mercedes-Benz. Michelin, Pirelli and Continental all list MO as Mercedes’ mark. Michelin writes that each marked tyre “is marked as a function of the car manufacturer in question and fitted to the model for which it was conceived.”
What to do with it
Read the letters after MO too: they are part of the mark (see below). Whether your Mercedes has to keep MO tyres is something none of these three pages says, so this page cannot tell you either. When replacing marked tyres Michelin writes that “it is therefore important to specify the same tyre as that approved by the car manufacturer”.
- What it looks like
- The letters MO moulded on the sidewall, alone or with more after them: MO1, MOE, MO-S, MO-V and others. All three lists write it with the letter O, not a zero. None of the three says where on the sidewall it sits: our drawing puts it after a size only to show it.
- Set by
- No regulation we read defines it: it is the tyre makers’ own marking, so the makers are the sources.
In detail
- In all three lists, read on 2026-10-16: MO, MO1, MOE, MO-S and MO-V. Pirelli adds MO1A, MO1B, MO1Ext, MOE-S and MO-P; Michelin adds MO S1 under Mercedes-Benz, and MO1 A, MO1 B and MO2 under Mercedes-AMG.
- MO1: Michelin’s photo caption reads “The M01 marking on this tyre indicates that it was designed for the Mercedes-AMG brand”, and its table lists MO1 under both Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Benz. Continental’s key lists “MO1 — MERCEDES-BENZ” without naming AMG.
- MOE: listed by all three. Only Continental’s key says what it adds: “MOE — MERCEDES-BENZ RUNFLAT”. Michelin and Pirelli list MOE without a meaning. For how a run-flat is otherwise marked, see the run-flat page.
- MO-S and MO-V: listed by all three. Continental’s key reads “MO-S — MERCEDES-BENZ SILENT” and “MO-V — MERCEDES-BENZ VIANO”; Michelin and Pirelli give no meaning for them.
- ★MO: Continental’s key reads “*MO — BMW & MERCEDES-BENZ”, a tyre approved by both; Michelin lists ★MO under Mercedes-Benz as well as BMW and MINI.
- Michelin cites an MO1A tyre on the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, which it says set a lap record of 6m 48.047s.
What it does not mean
MO is not a size, load or speed code and not a regulatory mark: Michelin notes that approval by a car maker “is not a mandatory process”, unlike the type approval every tyre needs. MO on its own does not mean run-flat; MOE is the variant Continental labels run-flat.
