Xbox controller: Controller light blinks but never pairs with a Windows PC
The controller is in Bluetooth pairing but Windows has not finished pairing it. If the PC is busy, Microsoft says recognising and pairing the controller can take up to 2 minutes, so wait a few minutes first.
Applies to: Xbox Wireless Controller with Bluetooth, on Windows. What you see: colour not named by the maker, flashing or blinking. Where: a controller.
What Microsoft says to do
- Run the Windows Bluetooth troubleshooter: search Bluetooth from Start and choose Find and fix problems with Bluetooth devices.
- Restart the PC.
- Move closer to the PC and away from phones or other Bluetooth devices.
- Restart the controller: hold the Xbox button for 6 seconds, then press it again.
- Re-pair it: remove the controller under Settings > Bluetooth & devices, press the controller’s Pair button, then choose it on the PC and select Pair.
