HP laptop: Battery or power light off or blinking
A battery power light that is off or blinking shows the condition of the power supply: the notebook may not be getting power from the AC adapter.
Applies to: HP notebook PCs (HP’s article names no model list). HP says the codes identify a variety of issues on HP notebook PCs and does not list models, so check your model with HP Customer Support if the code is not on this page.
What HP says to do
- HP says to use a genuine HP AC adapter with an HP notebook, push the DC connector fully into the notebook’s power port and plug the power cord into a working wall outlet.
- HP says to test the wall outlet with a small lamp or another device you know works, and to make sure the adapter cords are firmly connected.
- HP says to check that the light on the AC adapter is on (some adapters have none) and that the light at the notebook’s power port is on.
- HP says that if you have a power cord you know works, try it with your adapter: if that works, replace the power cord, not the adapter.
- HP says to look at the Windows battery icon next to the clock: a charging icon means the adapter is working; a plain battery meter means the adapter is not working and needs replacing.
If the light at the power port is not on, HP says the AC adapter might not be working or the system board might be damaged, and to contact HP Customer Support for further assistance.
