Check your manual — models differ. Two Whirlpool, Hotpoint and Indesit dishwashers can carry different programmes, options and lights, and the same drawing can mean different things on different brands; only your model’s manual says exactly what a light or button does on your machine.

Read this first

Whirlpool, Hotpoint and Indesit are one group. The sources here are a Hotpoint and a Whirlpool Daily Reference Guide, and where only one of the two shows a symbol the name below says which. Hotpoint’s salt light has two states: lit means the salt is almost empty, blinking means it is empty. Hotpoint’s DESCALE light is a stronger warning than a care reminder: if you ignore it, the machine allows a limited number of cycles and then blocks. On the Whirlpool, a 3-second press of TURBO turns on the key lock. No Indesit-branded dishwasher guide has been checked yet, so on those machines confirm the names in your manual.
