What Google says to do

1. Slide the mic switch at the bottom of the speaker to turn the mic on. You can dim the ring in the Google Home app (device tile, Settings, Lights) and turn the orange mic-off light off there, but not the other lights while the mic is on.

The same colour on other speakers

Another maker’s speaker can use this colour for something else entirely.

• Echo: Orange — Your device is in setup mode, or is trying to connect to the internet.
• HomePod: Orange flashing light — HomePod mini is connected to a computer, or is plugged into a power adapter that isn’t rated 20W (9V ⎓ 2.22A).
• Sonos: Solid orange — During setup: the product could not complete setup.
• Sonos: Flashing orange — During setup, the product is establishing a connection.
• Sonos: Flashing orange and white — The Sonos product is updating, or a factory reset is in progress.
• Sonos: Flashing pattern of red, white, orange and green — The product is in a hardware diagnostic mode.
