Small mono laser printers and MFPs whose wireless models have a Status light bar: white, amber, blue, green or purple, steady, flashing or pulsing, plus Paper and Cartridge lights. HP’s two guides word these light tables identically; the USB-only models use separate Status and Attention lights instead.

HP gives 2 causes for this pattern; the message on the computer or the printer software tells them apart.
The printer might be out of paper or the paper is not loaded properly.

The toner cartridge might be very low, or there is a cartridge error (such as incompatible, unauthorized or protected).
What HP says to do
- Replace the toner cartridge.
- If the printer is set to keep printing when the cartridge is very low, it gives no notification.

Solid amber light flashes fast on the bar
Status light bar (orange) blinking fast.
The printer has run into a problem.
What HP says to do
- Turn the printer off, and turn it on again after 30 seconds.
- If the problem persists, go to HP support for your model (the guide gives www.hp.com/support/ljM207 and www.hp.com/support/ljM232MFP).

The printer is idle and connected to a wireless network. A computer or mobile device is directly connected to the printer using Wi-Fi Direct.

Solid green light on the bar
Status light bar (green) on.
The printer is initializing, waiting for confirmation, doing automatic cleaning, downloading and installing a printer update, or cooling down. It may enter cool-down by itself under some environmental conditions, and print jobs can pause for several minutes while it does.
What HP says to do
- Keep the printer on during an update; do not turn it off or unplug it until the update is complete.
- If an update fails, the printer restarts and tries again by itself (it needs an active Internet connection).

- Press the Cancel button to clear the error, then connect again with WPS (User Guide, “Connect your printer to a Wi-Fi network using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)”).
