HP ENVY 6000 and ENVY Pro 6400 All-in-One series lights: what each pattern means

21 light patterns of the HP ENVY 6000 and ENVY Pro 6400 All-in-One series, from HP’s own guide User Guide HP ENVY 6000 All-in-One series — Control panel buttons (page 4), Edge lighting (pages 8 to 12) and Printer warning or error status (pages 96 and 97). Inkjet with Edge lighting: a large light bar across the front whose colour and movement show the printer’s state. HP’s two guides word the Edge lighting tables identically.

1. Light bar glows purple from the middle outward, repeating

   Edge lighting — centre of the light bar (purple) pulsing or moving; Edge lighting — outer edges of the light bar (purple) pulsing or moving.

   The printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode, waiting for the HP Smart app or HP printer software to connect: it is beaconing and ready to be found for setup.

   What HP says to do

   1. Complete setup using the HP Smart app or the HP printer software.
   2. The printer stays in Wi-Fi setup mode for two hours. To reset Wi-Fi setup mode, press the Wi-Fi button on the back of the printer.

2. Light bar glows purple in the center

   Edge lighting — centre of the light bar (purple) on.

   The printer is connecting to the HP Smart app. This lasts until the network credentials are passed to the printer; after three minutes with no activity it returns to the waiting state.

3. Outside edges of the light bar pulse purple, repeating

   Edge lighting — outer edges of the light bar (purple) pulsing or moving.

   The printer is connected to a wireless network and WPS Push Button mode is in progress.

4. Amber flashes in the center, purple bars stay lit at the outside edges

   Edge lighting — centre of the light bar (orange) blinking; Edge lighting — outer edges of the light bar (purple) on.

   An error occurred during WPS Push Button mode (a wireless connection error during Wi-Fi Protected Setup).

   What HP says to do

   1. Connect the printer again with WPS (User Guide, “Connect your printer to a wireless network using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)”).

5. Amber glows across the large light bar

   Edge lighting — outer edges of the light bar (orange) on; Edge lighting — centre of the light bar (orange) on.

   There is a warning or a printer-blocking error. When the printer leaves the error state, the amber light changes to green in the center.

   What HP says to do

   1. Open the HP Smart app, check the printer status, and follow the on-screen instructions.
   2. The guide’s “Printer warning or error status” lists the paper and ink causes.

6. Light bar glows amber towards the edges, then turns green

   Edge lighting — outer edges of the light bar (orange) on.

   The printer has been restored to factory defaults and will restart by itself when it is done.

7. Light bar blinks amber fast

   There is a serious printer error. All the lights on the printer blink fast.

   1. Turn the printer off and then on again.
