Framework Laptop 13 and 13 Pro lights: what each colour and blink means

A Framework Laptop 13 runs a blink-code check you can watch on the LED next to the port the power adapter is plugged into: one white blink to start, then 12 numbered steps, each blinking green if it passed and red if it failed. A red blink tells you which step failed; the table below names all 12. The Laptop 13 Pro’s table is the same, row for row.

Framework’s table for the Framework Laptop 13 (article dated 24 September 2025) and its table for the Laptop 13 Pro with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (dated 18 May 2026) list the same 12 steps. The LED is the one next to where the power adapter is plugged in. It blinks white to start the diagnosis; count the blinks after it, 1 to 12: green means that step passed, red that it failed. An orange blink followed by 8 green or blue blinks is something else, post code bits from Framework’s manufacturer, which Framework says to ignore. Framework publishes one table per laptop line, and steps 6 to 9 are not the same on every line, so check your model (Laptop 12, 13, 13 Pro or 16) before you read a count.

1. One white blink: the diagnosis is starting

2. One orange blink, then 8 green or blue blinks

3. Blink 1 red: battery connected check failed

   Step 1 of the diagnosis, the battery connected check, failed: the laptop did not pass its check that the battery is connected.

4. Blink 2 red: 3V/5V power supply check failed

5. Blink 3 red: VCCIN_AUX power check failed

   Step 3, Power Good VCCIN_AUX, failed: the processor’s VCCIN_AUX supply did not report “power good”.

6. Blink 4 red: CPU did not leave S4 sleep

   Step 4, which Framework’s table calls “CPU deassert sleep S4”, failed: the processor was not released from the S4 sleep state on the way to starting.

7. Blink 5 red: processor core power (VR) failed

   Step 5, Power boot core VR, failed: the voltage regulator (VR) that powers the processor core did not come up at boot.
