kWh per 100 cycles
How much electricity 100 runs of the eco programme use, in kilowatt-hours, as a weighted average of the loads the regulation prescribes. It is not an annual figure.

Where the regulations differ
Washing machines, dishwashers and tumble dryers all print energy per 100 cycles, but each group means its own eco programme and its own mix of loads (below), so the numbers do not compare across groups. A washer-dryer prints two: one for the complete wash-and-dry cycle, one for washing only. Fridges print kWh per year instead, and TVs and lamps kWh per 1000 hours.

- Weighted energy of the eco 40-60 programme, scaled to 100 cycles.

- Test condition
- eco 40-60 programme — the programme that washes normally soiled cotton declared washable at 40 °C or 60 °C — at rated capacity, half and a quarter of rated capacity, at the highest spin speed of that programme.

- Weighted energy of the eco drying programme, scaled to 100 cycles. Gas-fired dryers count gas and electricity together.

- Test condition
- eco programme, drying cotton from 60 % to 0 % moisture; three cycles at full load and four at half load.
