2. Ready LED dimmed (green)

   Ready LED (green) dimmed.

   The printer is in Sleep mode or Deep Sleep mode. Sending a print job wakes it and it prints.

3. Ready LED flashing (green)

   Cooling Down

   The machine is cooling down.

4. Paper and Ready LEDs flashing

   Paper LED (yellow) blinking; Ready LED (green) blinking; Toner LED off; Drum LED off.

   Cancel Printing

   The machine is cancelling the job.

5. Toner LED flashing, Ready LED on

   Toner LED (yellow) blinking; Ready LED (green) on; Drum LED off; Paper LED off.

   Toner Low

   You can still print, but the toner cartridge is near the end of its life.

   1. Order a new toner cartridge now, so you have one when the printer says Replace Toner.

6. Toner LED on, others off

   Toner LED (yellow) on; Drum LED off; Paper LED off; Ready LED off.

   Replace Toner

   The toner cartridge is at the end of its life. The machine stops all print operations.

   Cartridge Error

   The toner cartridge is not installed correctly.

   1. Remove the drum unit, take the toner cartridge out of it, and put it back in.

   No Toner

   The toner cartridge, or the toner and drum assembly, is not installed correctly.

8. Drum LED flashing, others off

   Drum LED (yellow) blinking; Toner LED off; Paper LED off; Ready LED off.

   Drum !

   The corona wire on the drum unit must be cleaned, or the drum unit (or the toner and drum assembly) is not installed correctly.

   What Brother says to do

   1. Clean the corona wire on the drum unit.
   2. Remove the drum unit, take the toner cartridge out and put it back, and reinstall the drum unit.
   3. If the issue continues, replace the drum unit.

9. Drum LED on, Ready LED on

   Drum LED (yellow) on; Ready LED (green) on; Toner LED off; Paper LED off.

   Replace Drum

   It is time to replace the drum unit, or the drum counter was not reset when the last drum was fitted.

   What Brother says to do

   1. Replace the drum unit with a new one.
   2. If you have just fitted a new drum, reset the drum unit counter.

10. Paper LED flashing, others off

    Paper LED (yellow) blinking; Toner LED off; Drum LED off; Ready LED off.

    Brother gives 4 causes for this pattern; the message on the computer or the printer software tells them apart.

    Cover is Open

    The front cover or the fuser cover is not completely closed, or paper was jammed at the back when the power came on.

    What Brother says to do

    1. Open and firmly close the front cover.
    2. Close the fuser cover inside the back cover, make sure no paper is jammed there, and press Go.

    Jam Inside / Jam Rear / Jam Tray

    Paper is jammed inside the machine, at the back, or in the paper tray.

    1. Clear the paper jam.

    Out of Memory

    The machine's memory is full.

    1. Reduce the print resolution.

    Size Mismatch

    The paper in the tray is not the correct size.

11. Paper LED on, others off

    No Paper

    The machine is out of paper, or paper is not loaded correctly in the tray.

    Manual Feed

    Manual was chosen as the paper source in the driver and there is no paper in the manual feed slot.

    2. Leave it idle for 15 minutes with the power on.

    The machine has a mechanical issue.
