Wash at 40 °C
Machine wash in water up to 40 °C on a normal cycle with full agitation. It is the most common wash symbol on everyday cotton, denim and mixed-fibre clothes.
What to do
Use the cotton or mixed programme at 40 °C or cooler; a 30 °C or 20 °C wash is also within the label and fine for lightly worn clothes.

On US and Canadian labels
North American labels show two dots in the tub for 40 °C (about 105 °F, warm) instead of the number.
Often confused with
Machine wash up to 40 °C on a gentle cycle with reduced agitation (one bar) — the synthetics programme. Meant for viscose, modal, polyester, polyamide and acrylic.
