Dell Inspiron laptop: Battery light blinks 1 amber, 6 white
Embedded controller (EC) internal failure. The EC is the small chip that runs the power button, keyboard and charging before Windows starts.
Applies to: Inspiron laptops, the section for models from 2020 to 2025 (Dell article 000140521). Dell says the diagnostic indicators may vary across different models and to see the documentation of your Dell laptop for device-specific information, so check your model.
What Dell says to do
- Dell says to disconnect the power sources, such as the AC adapter.
- Dell says to drain the flea power (the charge left in the laptop) by holding down the power button.
Dell’s table also names the battery among the power sources to disconnect. On an Inspiron whose battery is inside the case, that is a job for Dell Technical Support, not for you.
Dell says to contact Dell Technical Support for further troubleshooting if the problem persists.
