LPG in a diamond

Liquefied petroleum gas. On a vehicle, an LPG diamond means it can be filled with LPG (autogas).

What to do

Fill only from a nozzle whose diamond shows LPG if your vehicle's diamond shows LPG. A car converted to LPG after it was built will not necessarily have the label: the rule covers new vehicles only.

Can my car use it?

“You will only need to match the label of your vehicle with the corresponding label on the fuel pump.”

“The European legislation requires the labels only for new vehicles placed on the market for the first time or registered as of 12 October 2018.”

Check your vehicle's manual or the label inside the filler flap. We do not say which makes or models can use this fuel.

  • UK law: 'the symbol for liquefied petroleum gas according to the relevant standard or equivalent national legislation of the fuel delivered is "LPG"'.
  • CEN names EN 589 among the quality standards for gaseous fuels.
  • The Commission notes that LPG, like CNG and LNG, can in some cases be of 100% fossil origin.

What it does not mean

LPG does not mean CNG or LNG, which are natural gas (methane), and a diamond is never a petrol or diesel label.
