LNG in a diamond

Liquefied natural gas: natural gas or methane liquefied by cooling. On a vehicle, an LNG diamond means it can be filled with it.

What to do

Fill only from a nozzle whose diamond shows LNG if your vehicle's diamond shows LNG. An LNG nozzle is not a CNG or LPG nozzle.

Can my car use it?

“You will only need to match the label of your vehicle with the corresponding label on the fuel pump.”

“The European legislation requires the labels only for new vehicles placed on the market for the first time or registered as of 12 October 2018.”

Check your vehicle's manual or the label inside the filler flap. We do not say which makes or models can use this fuel.

  • UK law: LNG is 'natural gas or methane that has been liquefied by means of cooling'.
  • The Commission's Q&A lists LNG among the gaseous fuels whose filling pumps carry the diamond, and among alternative fuels (natural gas, including biomethane, in liquefied form).
  • CEN names EN 16723-2 among the quality standards for gaseous fuels.

What it does not mean

LNG is not LPG, even though both are liquids in the tank: LNG is cooled natural gas (methane), LPG is liquefied petroleum gas.
