De’Longhi Magnifica S: what the lights mean
Bean-to-cup with a lights-only panel (Magnifica S ECAM22.110 and the ECAM11.1xx, 12.1xx, 20.1xx and 21.1xx models in the same manual)
The Magnifica S has no screen: a row of symbol lights (steam, grounds container, water tank, descale and a general alarm) does all the talking, and most of them mean one thing when steady and another when flashing. The manual draws each light as a picture; its ‘Description of lights’ table says what every light means, and this page names each light by that job. The descale light is the one on the rinse/descale button. The manual’s ‘Explanation of lights’ table also lists alarms shown by combinations of symbols (coffee beans run out, grinding too fine, too much coffee, infuser missing) without naming the symbols in words, so those are summarised under the general alarm rather than guessed at.

| Descale light on steadily | Mode running: The appliance is performing a descaling cycle. |
| Water tank light flashing | Water: There is not enough water in the tank, or the tank is not correctly in place. |
| Water tank light on steadily | Water: The water tank is missing. |
| Grounds container light flashing | Container or tray: The grounds container is full and must be emptied. |
| Grounds container light on steadily | Container or tray: The grounds container is missing and must be inserted — usually because it was not put back after cleaning. |
| Steam light flashing | Mode running: You must turn the steam/hot water dial. |
| Steam light on steadily | Mode running: The steam function has been selected. |
| General alarm light on | Fault or blockage: An alarm is shown on the control panel. |

Contact a De’Longhi customer service centre (the manual’s wording) if the alarm stays on after cleaning, or if a problem is not solved by the steps in the manual.
