B30 in a square

Diesel containing up to 30% biodiesel (FAME). On a vehicle, a B30 square means it can use diesel with up to 30% biodiesel.

What to do

Fill from a B30 nozzle only if your filler-flap label or manual shows B30. A vehicle labelled B7 or B10 is not labelled for it.

“The information inside the shape indicates the maximum biofuel content in the fuel that is recommended for use by the vehicle that is equipped with the new label.”

  • CEN lists B30 as an EN 16942 diesel-type identifier.
  • The number is the maximum FAME share by volume, as UK law defines every 'BX' symbol.
  • Many readers have only ever seen B7 at the pump. B30 exists so that a vehicle approved for a higher blend can be matched to a pump that sells one; we found no public consumer guidance on where it is sold.

It does not mean exactly 30% biodiesel, and it does not mean a B7 car can take it.
