NATRUE label (natural or organic cosmetics)
Natural: minimum levels of natural substances and maximum levels of derived natural substances by product category, preservatives only from NATRUE’s nature-identical or derived-natural list, no GMOs. Organic: in addition, at least 95 % of the natural substances of plant and animal origin come from certified organic farming or wild collection. NATRUE extends the EU ban on animal testing of finished cosmetics to countries outside the EU.
Who awards it
NATRUE, The International Natural and Organic Cosmetics Association (Brussels), sets the criteria; products are certified by NATRUE-approved certifiers.
What it does not certify
It does not certify that a product is vegan: the criteria count natural substances ‘of plant and animal origin’. It does not certify that a ‘natural’-level product contains any organic ingredient, and since 1 January 2021 the old middle level, ‘natural with organic portion’, is only found on products whose certificate has not yet expired.

Good to know
The minimum natural content is set per product category in Table 1 of NATRUE’s criteria, so two NATRUE-certified natural products can have different natural shares.
