Nespresso Citiz, Inissia and Pixie: what the lights mean
Original line (small bullet capsules)
The Citiz, the Inissia and the Pixie have two buttons, Espresso and Lungo, each with a light, and their three manuals describe the lights in the same words: blinking means heating, steady means ready, and holding buttons for 3 seconds opens the descaling, emptying and Auto Off settings. None of them has a descaling alert — the manuals give a cup count by water hardness instead. The Essenza Mini works the same way but with 5-second presses, so it has its own page; the newer Essenza Plus and CitiZ Platinum have a descaling alert and a page of their own.

| Both lights blinking after you press Espresso or Lungo to turn it on | Heating up: The machine is heating up. |
| Both lights on and steady | Normal operation: Ready mode. |
| Both lights blinking after holding Espresso and Lungo together for 3 seconds (machine on) | Mode running: The machine is in descaling mode. |
| The two lights blinking alternately, with the tank off and the lever open | Mode running: The machine is emptying its water system — the mode Nespresso gives for a long period without use, frost protection or before a repair. |
| Lights blink fast 3 times after holding Lungo for 5 seconds (machine off) | Setting confirmed: The machine has been reset to its factory settings: Espresso 40 ml, Lungo 110 ml, Auto Off after 9 minutes. |
| Espresso light blinks once or twice after holding Espresso for 3 seconds (machine off) | Setting confirmed: The machine is showing its Auto Off setting: one blink means it turns itself off after 9 minutes without use, two blinks after 30 minutes. |
| Lights blinking irregularly | Fault or blockage: Nespresso lists irregular blinking as a fault. |
| No light | Off or no power: Usually the machine has switched itself off: Auto Off turns it off after 9 minutes without use (30 if you changed the setting). |
