JURA E8, E6, ENA 8 and S8: what the lights mean

Bean-to-cup machines with a text display (E8, E6, ENA 8, S8)

These four JURA machines show their messages as words on a display instead of lighting symbols the way the A1 does. JURA prints one table of ‘Display messages’ in each manual (chapter 8), split into messages on the start screen and messages in the JURA Cockpit, and lists the ‘Error’ messages under ‘Troubleshooting’ (chapter 9). The four tables match almost line for line, so they share this page; where one model differs, the state says which. Two examples: only the E6 asks you to ‘Rinse the milk system’, and only the S8 says ‘Not enough ground coffee’.

Every JURA E8, E6, ENA 8 and S8 light we could source, 14 in all, each with JURA’s meaning and steps. This is the E8, E6, ENA 8 and S8’s pattern; another JURA machine may use the same light for something else — check the manual for your model.

‘Fill water tank’ on the start screen

Water

The water tank is empty, and the machine will not make anything until it is filled — no coffee, no milk, no hot water.

“The water tank is empty. You cannot prepare any products.”

What JURA says to do

  1. Fill the water tank (the manuals’ chapter 5, ‘Daily operation – Filling the water tank’).

‘Fill water tank’ does not appear although the tank is empty

Water

The machine cannot tell the tank is empty because there is a lot of limescale in the water tank. JURA lists this under Troubleshooting in the E6, ENA 8 and S8 manuals.

“There is a lot of limescale in the water tank.”

What JURA says to do

  1. Descale the water tank (chapter 7, ‘Maintenance – Descaling the water tank’).

‘Empty grounds’ or ‘Empty drip tray’ (S8: ‘Empty coffee grounds container’)

Container or tray

The coffee grounds container or the drip tray is full, and nothing can be made until both are emptied. The S8 spells the first message out as ‘Empty coffee grounds container’.

“The coffee grounds container is full. / The drip tray is full. You cannot prepare any products.”

What JURA says to do

  1. Empty the coffee grounds container and the drip tray (chapter 5, ‘Daily operation – Maintenance actions’).

Source:

‘Drip tray not fitted’

Container or tray

The drip tray is missing or not pushed fully home, so the machine blocks every drink.

“The drip tray is not inserted correctly or is not inserted at all. You cannot prepare any products.”

‘Fill bean container’

Container or tray

The beans have run out. Coffee drinks are blocked, but hot water and milk still work.

“The bean container is empty. You cannot prepare any specialty coffees, but you can prepare hot water and milk.”

‘Too hot’ (E8, E6 and ENA 8)

Too hot, cooling

You asked for a maintenance program while the machine is still too hot to run it. The S8 manual does not list this message.

“The system is too hot to start a maintenance program.”

What JURA says to do

  1. Wait for several minutes until the system has cooled, or make a specialty coffee or hot water in the meantime.

‘Not enough ground coffee’ (S8)

Fault or blockage

You made a drink with pre-ground coffee and there was too little in the filler funnel, so the S8 stopped. Only the S8 manual lists this message.

“There is insufficient ground coffee in the machine; the S8 stops the operation.”

“The filter cartridge no longer works.”
