Jalo Helsinki alarm signals: beeps, chirps and lights
Jalo Helsinki is a Finnish maker of design smoke alarms: the round Kupu, which can have a fabric cover, and the Lento. The current Kupu 10 (launched 2017) and Lento 10 have a sealed battery that should last over 10 years. The earlier Kupu Original and Lento Original take three replaceable lithium batteries, so check which one you have before acting on a beep. Jalo’s support pages describe the signals in plain words rather than a table; this page puts them side by side.
If it is sounding a full alarm: the maker’s emergency instruction
Smoke alarm
Jalo Helsinki: in a fire, leave the house by the escape route you chose in advance. That is the easiest way out, kept clear at all times and known to everyone in the family, with everyone knowing where the keys to any locked doors are. Make sure children leave the house instead of hiding: Jalo warns that children sometimes hide in dangerous situations. For the emergency call, make sure everyone present knows the address of where you are; in Finland, Jalo points to the 112 Suomi app, which sends your location to the emergency centre when you call 112 through it.

The Jalo Helsinki alarm on these pages senses smoke only. For a carbon monoxide alarm, follow its own maker’s instruction.

Continual, loud alarm signal
Real alarm · smoke
Alarm: the optical smoke sensor has detected smoke. If there is no smoke or fire, Jalo says a continual alarm is usually a tiny dust particle or a small insect (most often a small spider) inside the smoke chamber, or steam or cooking fumes reaching the alarm.

What Jalo Helsinki says to do about this signal
- If there may be a fire, follow the instructions at the top of this page.

Fault · smoke
Same cause as the regular three beeps: something is disturbing the optical smoke sensor, such as dust, a small insect, steam or cooking fumes. Jalo says this happens to any smoke alarm, because the chamber cannot be sealed: smoke has to be able to get in.
