Fasting marker (a crossed-out apple or circle)
This result is labelled as a fasting test, taken after a long time without food. The meter compares it with the fasting range and averages it separately.
Check your meter’s manual — makers differ.
What it is for
Use it only after the fast the manual describes: the Accu-Chek manual (Roche) says “no caloric intake for at least 8 hours”, the Contour guide (Ascensia) “no food or drink for 8 hours, except water or non-caloric beverages”.
These pages report what each maker’s manual says and quote it wherever health is involved. They do not diagnose anything, they are not medical advice, and they never tell you how to treat a result; only your own meter’s manual and your healthcare team can do that for your model.
- What it looks like
- On the Contour Next One, an apple outline crossed out with a line. On the Accu-Chek Guide, a circle with a slash and no apple.
- Names makers use
- Fasting (Accu-Chek); Fasting marker (Contour)
Where makes differ
The drawing differs completely: Contour crosses out its apple, Accu-Chek uses a plain prohibition sign. The Contour Next One guide (Ascensia) pre-sets a fasting target range of 70 mg/dL–130 mg/dL; the Accu-Chek Guide has no separate fasting range in its 2 Ranges mode. The OneTouch meters read have no fasting tag.
What it does not mean
It is not a warning, and it does not tell the meter anything it measured: the label is only what you chose.
