Party mode (drinks glasses)

A one-day boost for when you are about to load a lot of food or drink: it switches on super cool and super freeze together, then switches itself off after about 24 hours.

What the manuals say to do

Switch it on before the shopping goes in — Miele suggests about 4 hours before you put the food and drinks in. Then leave it: it ends by itself after about 24 hours, or you can switch it off early once everything is cold. If you chill bottles in the freezer while it runs, take them out within an hour; Miele says they could burst, and Liebherr warns that drink bottles and cans, fizzy drinks above all, may explode if frozen.

What it does not mean

It is not a drinks timer: neither manual says it beeps when bottles are cold, so you still have to remember anything in the freezer. It does not change your settings for good — when it ends, Liebherr restores the temperatures you had set before. It does not run for good either: both makers switch it off after about 24 hours.

Makes differ, check your fridge’s manual: the same drawing can mean different things on different brands, and only your model’s manual says exactly what a button does, what temperature it sets and when it switches itself off.

What it looks like
A stemmed drinks glass. Miele draws one cocktail glass with a slice of fruit on the rim, in its Settings menu; Liebherr draws two champagne flutes touching, with bubbles, on its touch display.
Names used
Party mode (Miele); PartyMode (Liebherr)

Where makers differ

Miele also switches on DynaCool, the fan that spreads the cold through the fridge, and will not start Party mode while Holiday mode is on or the fridge section is switched off; it is chosen in Settings mode. Liebherr lets you adjust each function while PartyMode runs, but those changes are discarded when it ends. The name is not used the same way by every maker: a Whirlpool manual we found only on a third-party site uses “Party Mode” for chilling drinks in the freezer with a reminder after 30 minutes — if your party button counts down and beeps, check your own manual for which kind you have.
